Personal Development

Too often our youth players rarely get outside their comfort zones and as a result never improve. If players are unwilling to venture outside of comfort, football development is impossible. Players not wanting to play crosstown rivals and/or give their best effort during training are examples of how football development is impossible without a player desiring to self-improve.

We want to introduce references that can contribute to players’ development on and off the pitch. Goal setting, Impulse control, cooperation and self-regulation. are core references that can be applied throughout their time with ERFC, and more importantly life after competitive football.

  • Goal setting helps you direct your attention, and as a result, your time, energy and resources will be directed toward achieving those goals. Within football goal setting principles are practiced with the introduction of tactical principles. Players are directing their attention and football actions to accomplishing the team’s objective.

  • Impulse Control is the ability to suppress reactive aggression.

  • Cooperation: the process of working together to the same end

  • Self-regulation is the ability to understand, evaluate and adjust behaviors to ensure they are contributing to achieving your goals. If players are able to self-regulate they can take responsibility for their own development.

Volunteering

How can picking carrots improve my kids football development?
— Former Parent

We acknowledge picking carrots will not improve players’ football ability, but we believe players are part of a community that they have indirectly benefited from. Giving back to our community is an initiative that is important to our club. Our volunteer initiatives are mandatory and an integral part of the club’s methodology.
